They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But sometimes breakfast just doesn't happen for me.
Getting four kids to wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush their teeth, wash their faces, and make the beds, while packing lunches, checking homework, and getting dinner in the crockpot, all before the bus arrives just doesn't always leave much time for Mom to eat.
But I would like to make a conscious effort to eat more wisely, so I accepted the Weetabix Challenge #my BixMix - 7 days of Weetabix for breakfast, with as many different and creative toppings as possible.
Weetabix has been around for awhile, and it has a proven track record. It's high in fibre and whole grains, and it's low in sugar and calories (ding, ding, ding - we have a winner!). It's filling too, so you don't find yourself hungry at mid-morning, anxious to stuff your mouth with whatever junk food you can find.
So here's how my 7 Day Challenge went:
The first morning I almost forgot, but I managed to squeeze it in.

The second morning I was looking forward to sitting down and enjoying breakfast.
[caption id="attachment_7911" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Day 2 - Tropical Dried Fruit & Nut Mix and Milk[/caption]
The third morning, it started to become a ritual.
[caption id="attachment_7912" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Day 3 - Nectarines, Honey and Milk -- SO yummy![/caption]
The fourth morning, I almost forgot again. But thankfully I remembered in time, which is great because I had a crazy busy day and needed the energy to last me til dinner.
[caption id="attachment_7913" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Day 4 - Bananas and Strawberry Yogurt[/caption]
The fifth morning was back on track.
[caption id="attachment_7914" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Chopped Apples, Raisins, Fresh Ground Cinnamon and Sugar, and Milk - my favourite so far![/caption]
The sixth morning, I was finding all sorts of amazing recipes for Weetabix. Who knew you could use it to make muffins?
[caption id="attachment_7915" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Strawberries and Grapes, dusted with white sugar - yum![/caption]
The seventh day I was excited to realize that I had chosen a healthy breakfast without trans-fats, artificial preservatives or added colours every single day of the past week. What an accomplishment!
[caption id="attachment_7916" align="aligncenter" width="900"] Raspberries and Blueberries - a taste of summer![/caption]
Eating breakfast really is important for your health and even your mood throughout the day. But not just any breakfast will do.
Eating a cereal like Weetabix with fruit, yogurt, or nuts is the kind of breakfast that will not only take away the hunger pains, but will give your body the nutrients, fibre and energy it needs!

How would you "Mix Your Bix"?
What toppings would you add to your Weetabix?
*I was compensated for my participation in the Weetabix challenge and received product in exchange for my review.
As always, all of my opinions are my own.*
I'm a big fan of fruit in the morning, so I think I'd to the Bix and fruit route. These look really tasty. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love to get up extra early in the morning so that I have time to get my stuff done before the kids wake up. That's my time to relax and have coffee.
ReplyDeleteYour breakfasts are so much better than mine! Yum, that looks so good with the fresh fruit!
