Sandal weather is here! Hip hip hooray!
After months of being crammed into socks and boots, our feet can finally be free … until next winter of course. I don’t know about you, but my feet are definitely paying the price of being cooped up for months. With unkempt toenails, calluses, and dry, cracked heels it’s time for a foot makeover!
Here are my Six Steps to Sandal-Ready Feet:
Foot Bath – Feet tend one of the most neglected things when it comes to self-care. But really, they carry us around all day, allow us to stroll down the grocery aisle, run after impulsive toddlers, stand at the kitchen counter longer than we’d like, hustle from office to boardroom, and then drive home safely afterwards. At the end of a long day, a soak in some warm, soapy water is just the thanks they need. Or, if the weather is already hot and humid, an ice bath may be more in order.
Exfoliate – Rubbing away some of that dry skin with a pumice stone will immediately refresh your feet and make them look so much better!
Moisturize – Of course, after soaking and exfoliating, you’ll need to restore moisture to your feet so that they don’t continue drying out. I recently tried Ureadin Podos, a hydrating gel oil from Isdin. This stuff is so good for your skin. It’s specially designed for your feet, with emollients like Shea Butter and other re-epithelializing ingredients that will hydrate thickened skin, and even help to exfoliate them further. I did an 18-day test to see if it really was everything they say it is. And it lived up to the hype!
I put it on in the evening before bed over the last few weeks. The suggested use is twice a day (or more, for really dry skin) for 2-4 weeks. After that, just once each day. If these are the results I got using Ureadin Podos once each day, imagine what your results will be!
Even better is to add #Ureadin Ultra 10 Lotion Plus and #Ureadin Lotion Spray to your routine. (Get them here!)
Ureadin Ultra 10 Lotion Plus is perfect for the dry and flaking skin that can happen after swimming in chlorinated water or in salt water (hello ocean!), and it’s great for hands especially. It is intense enough to work on xerosis and ichthyosis and moisturizes even dry, cracked skin. If you also experience itching or irritation with your dry skin, say goodbye to that too!
And I’m not sure how I managed before discovering Ureadin Lotion Spray! I use it after showering to restore hydration to my skin. Because it’s a spray, I can do my legs and arms much more quickly than traditional creams. It soaks in quickly with no stickiness, and makes your skin feel so smooth! I even use it on the tops of my feet where the skin isn’t dry enough to really need Ureadin Podos, but it still needs something. Ureadin Lotion Spray does the job!
Pedicure – Once those puppies are healthy and moisturized, you’ll want to make them look their best! Trim toenails carefully with clippers, and then paint them with your favourite colour of nail polish. Here’s the best part: you can use a much bolder colour on your toenails than you can on your fingernails, even if you have workplace restrictions on nail colour. Customers won’t be looking at your toes, so go all out! Finish them off with a clear, heavy duty top coat, and you’re good to go!
Guard against blisters – Summer brings with it so many options in terms of cute footwear. Flip flops are great, but sometimes the occasion calls for those adorable strappy sandals that you haven’t really worn in yet. Be prepared for blisters by always having blister bandages with you. Treat blisters quickly, or even prevent them before they happen to keep your feet looking their best.
Sunscreen – How often do you put sunscreen on your feet? I’m guessing close to never, if you’re like most of us. But the tops of our feet (or even the bottom when we’re laying on the beach) are susceptible to sunburns. And sun-burnt feet are no laughing matter. Lather it on your feet every time you put sunscreen on.
These are my go-to steps to getting my feet ready to be on display this summer. I’d love to hear your tips!
