Our Canada Parks Discovery Pass just arrived! I’ve had a general idea of what our plans were going to be this summer, but now I can really start to plan!
The snow is melting, the sun is shining, and this is the perfect time to work on our 2016 Summer Bucket List.
We’ll be spending a week in Prince Edward Island, and a week at Muskoka Bible Centre as it is. But I love doing day trips as a family, and that’s where our Discovery Pass will come in handy.
So, in no particular order, here is our Summer Bucket List:
Places to Visit with Kids in Ontario
Fathom Five National Marine Park near Tobermory – Home to various shipwrecks and a Flowerpot Island, and close to Bruce Peninsula National Park, where you’ll find the Grotto, a cave with crystal clear water, perfect for swimming.
Wasaga Beach – Okay, this one doesn’t really need to be on our bucket list because we visit it over and over through the year. But I’ll keep it on the list anyway.
Bethune Memorial House in Gravenhurst – Birthplace of Dr. Norman Bethune, this is a look at the life and accomplishments of a medical pioneer!
Canada’s Wonderland – Wonderland is probably the biggest amusement park in Canada, and it’s less than an hour away from us. They’ve got great rides, epic food, and some pretty amazing shows!
HMCS Haida in Hamilton – The Haida is “Canada’s most fightingest ship”, and was active in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Cold War.
Cheltenham Badlands – I just heard about the Cheltenham Badlands recently, and they’re not that far away from us. We may be a little late to the party (officials have cordoned off the Badlands, and now you can only view them from a nearby trail), but they’re still worth a day trip to check out.
Science North – If there’s one thing our kids can agree on, it’s that they all love Science Centers! We haven’t been to Science North in Sudbury in several years, so we’re looking foward to heading there this summer!
Bonnechere Caves – Okay, so viewing the Bonnechere Caves seems to be only by guided tour, unlike the Scenic Caves and the Warsaw Caves. But the photos I’ve seen are stunning – huge open caves with fossils and other formations. We’ve never ever been there, so this is one I’m really looking forward to!
Camp X – This was Canada’s top secret spy training location in the Second World War, and the lore continues to grow with a TV series called X Company. How cool would it be to check out how the spies lived and trained, right here near where we live? It’s not open to the public, but there will be a special walking tour in May. It’s not technically during the summer, but I think it still deserves a spot on our Summer Bucket List.

ReplyDeleteI think Canada is just about the most beautiful place you can go in the North. It has the stark, white brilliance in the winter and yet, when summer rolls around it’s so lush and green.
