Prince Edward Island: Where to Stay, Eat & Visit!

Red cliffs, pristine beaches, beautiful sunsets, and friendly faces - what's not to love!

My side of the family has extensive roots in Prince Edward Island, tracing our lineage back to the Acadian Expulsion and Michel Hache.  We visit every year or two to spend time with family, sightsee, and get our fill of the ocean and those beautiful red and green fields.

In May, we packed up our travel trailer and headed down east for just over a week, taking 2-3 days to drive each way.  Here's how our schedule looked:

PEI RV Trip Itinerary

Where to Stay: Jellystone Park, Cavendish

Because we went in May, we were there before the start of the official "Tourist Season", and there weren't very many campers at all.  It was quite quiet and very peaceful.

Jellystone was originally a KOA, up until the end of 2024, from what I understand.  It still looks very much like a KOA and has many of the same amenities, from the bouncy pillow to the pool to the playground.  When we arrived, they had just added a new bathroom building with really nice showers.

We booked a Premium Site, which included a patio area, BBQ, wooden swing, patio table & several chairs.  It worked really nicely for having family over.  We had lots of room to spread out.

Most of the other sites have the amount of space that you would expect at a KOA -- enough room for a picnic table and firepit, but relatively close to your neighbour.

Where to Eat: FiN FOLK FOOD

While we do bring food for each meal, we also end up eating out at least once or twice when we're in PEI.  In 2025, we discovered Fin FOLK FOOD - a beautifully unique restaurant in Grand Tracadie, right on the beach.  The view was AMAZING, and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced.

Where to Visit: St. Dunstan's Basilica

We've been to Prince Edward Island too many times to count, but we had never taken the opportunity to visit St. Dunstan's Basilica in Charlotttetown before.  It's an absolutely gorgeous example of Gothic Revival architecture -- something we don't see close to home.

Walking through the doors to the sanctuary, we were greeted with a breath-taking view of the expansive ceiling, delicate stained glass windows, and intricately sculptured walls.  What a sight!

Outside of service times, people are welcome to visit and view the inside of the building for free.  We were even invited to stay for a service!

Word to the wise though - this is a place of worship.  Be prepared to enter quietly and respectfully, and take photos discretely!

Where to Visit: Oyster Bed Speedway

If you're into fast cars, this one's for you.  We enjoyed a full afternoon of car races, capped off a good sized demolition derby.   A concession stand kept us going with hot dogs, chips, candy and drinks.  It's a bit pricey to get in, but considering that you get a full 6-8 hours of entertainment, it's worth the cost!

Where to Visit: Gulf Shore Parkway

If you're looking for a North Shore beach to explore, this is one of the best places.  All along the Gulf Shore Parkway, there are red sand beaches with cliffs, water-tumbled sandstone, and driftwood galore!  We stopped at a few spots and had a great time scouring the beach for interesting rocks and sea creatures.

We had a great time enjoying the Island this spring, without getting pulled into a tourist trap even once!  What a great visit!
