As you know, Welcome To The Zoo has been sending food and pantry items to a family in need in Fort Ware/Kwadacha. We've sent 2 boxes so far, and have a third ready to go next week. My goal is to send one each month for a year, so 12 in total.
The reason why we're doing this is because of the prohibitively high food prices in Canada's North.

Through Helping Our Northern Neighbours, we've been matched with a family that needs our help.
But, we've been able to help in another way too!
Giant Tiger, here in my hometown, has donated several pairs of mitts, hats, scarves, tights, socks and more! I want to send a huge THANK YOU to Giant Tiger -- you guys are amazing!
I ran out of time to count everything, but there were over a hundred separate pieces. Their only requirement was that everything be given to those who need it, free of charge. I was able to ship everything up to Fort Ware in the care of a woman I've been in contact with. I'm so grateful for her help in receiving and distributing everything for us!

Fort Ware / Kwadacha is located in Northern British Columbia here in Canada. It's only accessible by air and by a logging road. Our items are shipped in by airdrop and take about 2-3 weeks to arrive there.

I'm excited to be able to help a family with their groceries! And now, with Giant Tiger's generous donation, we're able to help even more families!
Would you consider helping too? I'm able to get food and other items at a reasonable cost, but the cost of shipping does add up. One box of food costs about $100-$150 to ship to Fort Ware. And believe it or not, it is cheaper to ship it than it is for a family to buy the same things in the north. Even if you're able to give just $10 or $20, everything helps!

ReplyDeleteSo generous of you to support folks up North. I've often wondered how they cope and it's shocking that food is do expensive for them to buy. I'll keep it in mind for when I have extra funds.
