The Back Ache vs. The To-Do List #Aleve12Hours

It comes and goes, but it always seems to come at the worst times. It hit me on our three week road trip out to the coast of BC, and was one of the reasons why we didn’t make it all the way. It came on our most recent camping trip, making getting in and out of the tent an ordeal. And it hit me again, at the beginning of this week.

Back pain. I hate it.

I’m so strict about how often I take pain relief, and this time around I was adamant that I wouldn’t give in. That is, until my tense, aching back woke me up at 3am and refused to let me go back to sleep. I tossed and turned and then headed to the couch, where I tossed and turned some more.

I finally got up and showered at 5:30 because I couldn’t stand it anymore. The hot water did very little to ease the aching that would stab every time I moved, bringing tears to my eyes. Thankfully I was working at home that day, so I put on my comfy clothes and made it through the day.

That evening however, I realized I needed to do something about the pain. You see, the next day was my one full day off this week, and I had already set it aside to go Christmas shopping from the moment the school bus left until it came back at the end of the day. I likely wouldn’t have another chance to do this before Christmas.

I slowly made my way to the store and bought pain reliever.  I bit the bullet and took one that evening, thinking that if I could just get a full night’s sleep, I would be able to tackle half my shopping list the next day.

I went to bed at the usual time and almost jumped out of bed when my alarm went off the next morning. My first thought was “It doesn’t hurt!”

I moved slowly at first, but then realized that my back was actually pain-free! I managed to get my entire shopping and to-do list completed, and I was able to take my daughter to her evening activity, and do some more shopping! I’m sure that the pain relief I took the night before relieved my pain.

The rest of the year, I shop for fun. But at Christmas time, it becomes more a mode of survival than anything else. With gifts and party supplies and food and wrapping and decorations to buy, the list seems never-ending. But thanks to those pain relievers, I was able to get everything done that I needed to!

Have you tried Aleve? It’s designed to relieve aches and pains caused by headaches, arthritis, toothaches and you guessed it: backaches! It works for morning stiffness, and the pain you get from moving all day around on a busy day. And the relief lasts up to 12 hours, which is essential for a busy mom!20151124_185915

You know as well as I do, that if we start to slow down because of muscle or joint pain, getting back to our normal routine takes longer and longer with each passing day. Taking a pain killer reliever like Aleve allows you to keep moving and keeps the stiffness out of your joints for up to 12 hours!

I think I’ve learned my lesson. While I’m not one to depend on medication, taking pain relief when it’s really needed keeps me on track with my responsibilities and commitments.

Do you struggle with back pain? What do you do when it hits?
